I hear this often ... "I was lucky. Menopause was easy for me. No hot flashes. No big
symptoms."
And every time I hear that, I want to gently expand the conversation. Because
menopause isn't just about symptoms. It's about what's happening beneath the
surface.
As estrogen declines, the effects reach your heart, bones, and brain - whether you
feel dramatic changes or not:
Heart: After menopause, cardiovascular risk rises significantly. Heart disease is still the #1 killer of women, and estrogen plays an important protective role in vascular health.
Bones: Up to 20% of bone loss can occur in the first 5-7 years after menopause.
One in two women will experience an osteoporosis-related fracture in her lifetime.
Brain: Women make up nearly two-thirds of Alzheimer's cases. Estrogen supports blood flow and function in critical areas of the brain.
Many women felt just "fine." Until ... a cardiac event, a fracture, or cognitive decline.
Menopause is not just a phase. It's a long-term physiologic shift.
And informed choice matters. Not based from fear, pressure or a one size fits all. But
from partnership.
Which is why I am SOOOO thrilled to be sharing that a different approach to
women's health is coming to central NH SOON!
My incredible friend, Trisha Brooks, NP and her colleague Dr. Veronica Triaca, MD
are opening Restore Women's Wellness- a practice built around collaborative care,
where both patient and practitioner have a seat at the table. Prevention. Education.
Thoughtful hormone evaluation. The kind of space so many women have been
anxiously hoping for. More details on this soon. Stay Tuned.
Because "I was fine" shouldn't mean we stop asking better questions.
